Dow Set for a Higher Open Tuesday Ahead of Donald Trump's State of the Union Address

6:35 a.m. The Dow Jones Industrial Average appears set for a higher open this morning ahead of the State of the Union tonight.

Dow futures have gained 97 points, or 0.4%, while S&P 500 futures have advanced 0.2%, and Nasdaq Composite futures have gained 0.3%.

Donald Trump’s State of the Union address will be watched closely for signs that he is prepared to accept a compromise on the border wall, and avoid a resumption of the government shutdown, which could start on Feb. 15. For now, the market appears to be able to absorb that uncertainty, as well as Google parent Alphabet’s (GOOGL) earnings, which were fine except for the part about its shrinking margins. Its stock is off 2.3% at $1,114.85.
