Top Health Care Stocks
Health care stocks were little changed this afternoon, including a less than 0.1% decline for the NYSE Health Care Index in recent trade. Shares of health care companies in the S&P 500 were up about 0.1% as a group although the Nasdaq Biotechnology index was climbing almost 0.7%.
Among health care stocks moving on news:
(-) Acasti Pharma ( ACST ) was slipping Monday afternoon, falling about 0.2%. The biopharmaceuticals company said fasting subjects treated with a single 4 gram dose of its CaPre drug candidate – a highly purified omega-3 phospholipid concentrate derived from krill oil – demonstrated greater bioavailability as measured by levels of EPA and DHA in their bloodstream compared with patients treated with Lovaza, another commonly used form of omega-3.
In other sector news:
(+) ZIOPHARM Oncology ( ZIOP ) was more than 3% higher after the US Food and Drug Administration granted fast track designation for its IL-12 program for the treatment of recurrent or progressive glioblastoma multiforme, a cancer of the central nervous system, in adults.
(-) MannKind ( MNKD ) was falling 8% on Monday, giving back a small early gain. The inhaled therapeutic products said it received a $12.5 milestone payment through it collaboration agreement with United Therapeutics ( UTHR ) to develop a hypertension treatment.
