US stocks held on to gains going into the midday Wednesday amid easing tensions between the US and China over trade after President Donald Trump’s encouraging comments on negotiations.

In economic news, November’s consumer price index came in flat in line with expectations following a 0.3% rise in October.

Across the Atlantic, equities were higher, benefiting from the enhanced prospects of a US-China trade deal while largely ignoring the political turmoil in the United Kingdom with British PM Theresa May about to face a confidence vote.
